The Chairman of the Council for Economic and Diplomatic Relations said that despite of the benefits for the the countries of Central and Eastern Europe from the 17+1 initiative, the platform is losing its momentum in general.

“Tensions has been high in political aspect between a number of CEE countries and China over the past two years,” said Zheng Zhong.

He shared that at the summit held on February 9 this year. as many as six CEE countries were not represented by the heads of states or governments, but only ministers participated. Bulgaria was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Mariana Nikolova, while China is represented by president Xi Jinping.

“This clearly shows that China wants to add more significance to the event while these six countries obviously do not share the same enthusiasm,” concluded Zheng Zhong.
